Maurice and the rats are good characters, as is Keith, the aforementioned stupid-looking kid. Hamnpork sees Darktan as a threat. They go from village to village scamming the villagers into paying for the piper to rid the town of rats who are running amok, widdling on the cheese and swimming in the cream. They'd have been really amazed if they'd ever found out that the rats and the piper met up with a cat somewhere outside of town and solemnly counted out the money. For lurking beneath the town's streets is an obstacle course of mangling rattraps and noxious poisons. Yes, one minute you are a star whistling through the cosmos, the next, a cat Talk to the paw, because the whiskers aren't listening. In this very good movie, a young piglet confronts the contrast and distinction of animals as pets and being loved as a part of the family while also being food.

I am reading the Discworld series in order of publication, and I was dreading having to get through a 'young adult' novel to be complete, but this didn't break my momentum in the least.
Sometimes I get this sensation when talking to people that they are constantly this is exhausting testing me to see if I'll stay interesting, or slip up and say something dumb of course I'm going to do that. When one of the world's most acclaimed fantasy writers turns a classic fairy tale on its head, no one will ever look at the Pied Piper or rats the same way again! Amazing Maurice is told from several points of view. This is a good book! Think they're lords of creation. Maybe, but there are some dark issues going on and dealt with from the master himself. Yes, one minute you are a star whistling through the cosmos, the next, a cat in the alley. The rats are great at first, a nice blend of ratty grossness and the angst that comes with sudden enlightenment… or puberty. Not that Maurice had a difficult time recruiting Keith to his Pied Piper scheme.
I might actually recommend this book over any of the others I have read to start someone into his writing and Discworld. Malicia tricks the rat catchers into thinking they have been poisoned by slipping laxative in their drink. Clicky, the Sisters Grim, trap-hunters, and Hamnpork fit into the plot ---???? Talk to the paw, because the whiskers aren't listening. Instead of a main character who will do anything to achieve a goal, we usually have a lunkhead who rolls around in the mud until something happens. B Well, I have definitely learned a lot about rats.

Piper plus rats equals lots and lots of money. Instead he writes books that happen to be about kids but in tone and theme are the same as his books for adults. This streetwise alley cat knows the value of cold, hard cash and can talk his way into and out of anything. Which is amazing, because when I got it, I didn't even expect for me to like it that much. The basic premise is that some of the rats in Ankh-Morpork, after eating magical rubbish dumped by the residents of the Unseen University, have The Amazing Maurice and His Educated Rodents is the first young adult Discworld book. My being 34 years of age, and this is the first Terry Pratchett book I have read. Even hints of suffrage for females.
